Brick House Recovery Centre to Expand Gambling Addiction Treatment Across Alberta

We are excited to announce a new provincial investment that will expand access to specialized, recovery-focused gambling treatment and aftercare for Albertans

Brick House Recovery Centre is proud to announce a significant new partnership with the Government of Alberta to expand access to specialized gambling addiction treatment and recovery services across the province.

Gambling Programs in Alberta Brick House Recovery Centre
For the first time, Brick House will be providing publicly funded gambling treatment through a flexible, person-centred outpatient program (IOP). The gambling IOP is designed specifically to support Albertans experiencing gambling addiction through four weeks of outpatient treatment followed by up to eight weeks of individualized aftercare, creating a continuum of support that extends beyond initial treatment.

The investment is part of Alberta’s broader commitment to ensuring that individuals and families affected by gambling addiction can access free, recovery-oriented care.

Expanding Access to Gambling Addiction Treatment in Alberta

Gambling addiction can affect far more than a person’s finances. It can have significant impacts on mental health, relationships, employment, family life, and overall well-being. For individuals struggling with gambling, accessing specialized treatment can be an important first step toward breaking harmful patterns and rebuilding stability.

The program will provide treatment in Edmonton and Calgary, with virtual services available across the province. This approach is designed to make specialized care more accessible to Albertans regardless of where they live.

Brick House Recovery Centre already provides evidence-based outpatient addiction, mental health and trauma-focused treatment in Alberta, with services available in person and virtually. Its multidisciplinary approach recognizes that addiction can intersect with mental health, trauma, relationships and other areas of a person’s life.

Treatment That Continues Beyond the First Four Weeks

The new gambling treatment program will combine structured outpatient treatment with individualized aftercare.

Participants will receive four weeks of outpatient programming, followed by up to eight weeks of individualized aftercare designed to support continued recovery and help individuals apply the skills they develop during treatment to their everyday lives.

This continued support reflects Brick House’s broader approach to recovery. Its existing aftercare programming focuses on relapse prevention, managing triggers, personal growth, relationships, and developing practical strategies for maintaining long-term recovery.

The program is designed to provide support while helping participants stay connected to their families, communities, and other responsibilities.

A Provincewide Resource

While in-person gambling treatment will be available through Brick House locations in Edmonton and Calgary, virtual services will allow Albertans throughout the province to access the program.

Brick House currently provides online services for individuals who live outside its physical locations, including people in remote communities.

For Albertans who may not be able to travel to Calgary or Edmonton, virtual care can provide another pathway to specialized treatment while maintaining access to professional support.

A Partnership Focused on Recovery

Brick House Recovery Centre is proud to partner with the Government of Alberta on this initiative and to play a role in expanding the province’s response to gambling addiction. The funding is supported through social responsibility funding associated with Alberta’s regulated iGaming market, with one per cent of gross gaming revenue dedicated to addiction treatment.

Brick House is the first organization to receive funding through the province’s open competition for coordinated outpatient and online gambling treatment and recovery services, with additional recipients expected to be selected later this fall.
